British Science Week 2025 at Loxford School
BackLoxford School celebrated British Science Week 2025 from 10th March with a series of engaging and thought-provoking activities aimed at inspiring students and deepening their understanding of science. Throughout the week, students from various key stages participated in lessons, experiments, and projects that focused on different areas of science, sparking curiosity and creativity.
Key Stage 3 Activities
-
Year 7: Students explored the fascinating concept of animal adaptations, learning how different species, such as the peacock, have evolved to survive in their unique environments. They examined the theory of natural selection and the critical importance of biodiversity in maintaining ecological balance.
-
Year 8: The focus for Year 8 students was on the pressing issue of climate change. They investigated the causes and effects of global warming and discussed potential solutions to reduce its impact. Through interactive discussions and group projects, students were encouraged to think critically about sustainability and how science can contribute to a more sustainable future.
-
Year 9: Year 9 students explored the evolution of Earth's atmosphere, examining how it has changed over millions of years. In addition, they participated in a hands-on heart dissection taster lesson, gaining a deeper understanding of human anatomy and the complexities of the cardiovascular system.
ALevel Activities
- Year 13: Year 13 students participated in an advanced Chemistry experiment focused on reaction rates. The experiment allowed them to apply their knowledge of chemical kinetics and observe how different factors, such as temperature and concentration, influence the speed of reactions.
School-wide Initiatives
A major highlight of British Science Week 2025 at Loxford School was the poster competition, inspired by the official British Science Week guidelines. Students across all year groups were invited to participate in this exciting competition, with the theme focusing on the topic ''adapt and change". This theme challenged students to consider innovative ways science has evolved and influenced their world.
Overall, British Science Week 2025 at Loxford School was a success, promoting scientific literacy, encouraging creative thinking, and inspiring students to explore the limitless possibilities within the world of science. The week not only celebrated science but also emphasised its practical applications and importance for the future
