Year 9 trip to the National Army Museum

Back
January 9th 2024

On Tuesday 12th December Year 9 Students went on a trip to the National Army museum in Chelsea.

Students took part two workshops whilst they were at the Museum; Operation Robot (coding) and Cargo drop engineering challenge. In operation robot, students examined the benefits of robotics to the Army and their various applications before collaborating in small groups to use block coding and Dash robots to accomplish Army-based tasks. Students developed their computational thinking abilities and build algorithms with sequencing and selection using logical reasoning. When taking part in the cargo drop, students explored how forces of motion act on falling objects. Students created their own airborne cargo delivery systems in groups, drawing inspiration from the Second World War's aviation history, and then tested it out in the drop zone area. Teams had to make sure their delicate cargo survived the eight-meter drop while also keeping an eye on their budget.

All students were a credit to the school and showed impeccable behaviour throughout, demonstrating their abilities to work as a team with good communication skills and forward thinking.

A big thank you to the National Army Museum for having us.
