Barcelona 2023

It is commonly said that “travel shapes youth” and in many ways, the Barcelona trip gave our students the opportunity to not only experience a culture completely different to theirs but also practise what they have learnt in lessons.
With its rich history, vibrant culture, stunning architecture, and beautiful beaches, Barcelona offers a diverse range of educational opportunities and exciting adventures.
After an early start in London, we were pleased to drop our luggage and refresh at our “albergue” before exploring the surroundings of “Les Corts”, a very pleasant area in the south-east of Barcelona. The city is renowned for its architectural wonders, most notably the works of the legendary architect Antoni Gaudí, and some students took a picture of his statue.
We then headed towards the Camp Nou, home to FC Barcelona, where students were able to learn about the club's history and achievements as well as buy some souvenirs.
On day 2, we set off in the morning for the language school where students were immersed in a Spanish lesson and had the opportunity to go out in the nearby area and meet some locals.
We followed our visit to the Gothic Quarter which allowed the students to wander through narrow, medieval streets, discover hidden squares, and admire ancient landmarks such as Gaudí's masterpiece: the iconic Sagrada Familia, otherwise known as the Barcelona Cathedral. From there, we made our way to the Barceloneta beach where students were able to chill and enjoy the pleasant Mediterranean breeze.
On day 3, we went to the Maremagnum shopping centre where students were able to buy souvenirs and order food in Spanish. From there, we made our way to the Barceloneta beach for a relaxing time with their feet in the water. In the evening, we took a bus and headed to the town centre for our dinner and enjoyed not only gorgeous food but also the city's lively atmosphere.
On the last day, we had the chance to try a traditional tapas meal before going back to our “albergue” and getting ready to head for the airport and our flight back to London.
The trip to Barcelona was a perfect blend of educational experiences, cultural immersion, and recreational activities. The city's vibrant atmosphere and diverse offerings ensured that every student returned home with cherished memories and a deeper appreciation for Barcelona's rich history and cultural heritage.
